Wedding Cake House 25

Community Markham
Year Constructed:  1870
Address: 48 Main Street North

Known for its exuberance of decorative woodwork as the "Wedding Cake House", the Picturesque house was built for James Speight circa 1870. James was the son of Thomas Speight, the founder of the Speight Wagon Company. James managed the wagon works and was also elected the first Reeve of Markham village in 1873. The ornate trim for the house would have been made at the factory. (Rumour has it that there my be a ghost living in this building, but that’s only if you believe.)
