Formerly Milburn Road, the site of the Milburn Tavern, the street acquired a new name after John Colborne, Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada form 1828 to 1836, came to visit his friend Captain Richard Sutton Frizzell who lived there.

So it was not John Simcoe, John Martin or John Ramsden or any number of other Johns associated with pioneer days.
